Shithead – The Ultimate Tactical Card Shedding & Elimination Experience

Welcome to Shithead (also widely known by its family-friendly titles Palace, Karma, or Swedish Shedding), an intensely competitive, fast-paced card shedding game that combines simple card-matching mechanics with ruthless strategy, hand management, and high-stakes chaos! Popularized across European parlors, backpacker hostels, and digital card platforms, Shithead transforms the traditional card-shedding genre into an unpredictable battle of memory, timing, and tactical traps.

Whether you are looking to challenge advanced AI opponents in offline sessions or go head-to-head against friends and players worldwide, Shithead delivers an addictive, nerve-wracking tabletop experience. With special effect cards, hidden face-down blind slots, sudden pile clearings, and relentless elimination mechanics, no lead is ever safe until the final card hits the felt!

Game Overview & Lore: The Art of Tactical Shedding

In standard card games, victory is awarded to the player who collects the most tricks or accumulates the highest point total. Shithead flips this concept completely on its head: your sole objective is to get rid of every single card in your possession as quickly as possible. The first player to successfully clear all their hand cards, face-up table cards, and face-down blind cards wins the match and escapes victorious.

However, the last remaining player left holding cards when everyone else has finished is crowned the Loser (the official "Shithead" of the round) and must face the ultimate penalty of shuffling and dealing the next match!

The essence of the game relies heavily on using special effect magic cards (like 2s, 7s, 8s, 10s, and Aces) to block your opponents, force them to pick up massive discard piles, skip their turns, and dismantle their carefully planned strategies.

Key Features & Gameplay Mechanics

1. Three-Tiered Card Layout Architecture

In Shithead, players do not just play from their visible hand. Each player is dealt three distinct card zones that must be cleared in strict sequential order:

  • Zone 1: The Active Hand (6 Cards initially dealt, maintained to 3): The primary hand of cards held privately that you play during the opening stage of the match.
  • Zone 2: The Face-Up Table Cards (3 Cards): Visible cards laid flat on the table in front of you. These can only be accessed once your active hand is completely empty and the draw deck is depleted.
  • Zone 3: The Blind Face-Down Cards (3 Cards): Hidden cards placed directly beneath your face-up table cards at the start of the game. These are played purely on blind luck in the endgame!

2. Pre-Game Swap Phase

Strategy begins before a single card is played to the discard pile! During the setup phase, players are permitted to swap any cards from their private initial hand with their three face-up table cards. Selecting high-value cards (like Kings and Aces) or powerful Special Magic Cards (like 2s and 10s) to sit on your face-up table slots is crucial for surviving the high-stakes endgame!

3. Explosive Magic Cards & Special Effects

Standard rank comparison ($2$ through Ace) is constantly interrupted by game-changing special cards that alter the flow of play, wipe the board clean, or skip enemy turns.

4. Continuous Multi-Card Stacking & Instant Clears

Players are allowed to play multiple cards of identical rank in a single turn (e.g., throwing down three 7s at once). Furthermore, if four cards of the exact same rank land consecutively on top of the discard pile (either played by one player or built up by consecutive players), the pile triggers an Instant Wipeout and is permanently removed from play!
