Hunting Jack - At the Train Station

1. Executive Summary & Game Overview

Hunting Jack - At the Train Station is an atmospheric, suspenseful, and intellectually stimulating deduction, hidden-movement, and tactical pursuit game. Set against the gritty, soot-stained backdrop of a bustling late 19th-century Victorian railway terminal, the game pits a lone, cunning fugitive—Jack—against a coordinated team of vigilant station detectives, railway guards, and undercover investigators. Inspired by classic asymmetric deduction games, Hunting Jack - At the Train Station captures the high-stakes tension of a high-speed cat-and-mouse game where every step, disguise, train departure, and whispered rumor could mean the difference between a clean escape and a public arrest.

In Hunting Jack - At the Train Station, the game board represents a multi-level, intricately detailed railway hub filled with passenger platforms, dark luggage tunnels, ticket lobbies, steam engines, signal towers, and crowded waiting rooms. Jack moves in secret using a hidden movement log, leaving behind subtle environmental clues like dropped ticket stubs, coal dust footprints, or displaced luggage tags. Meanwhile, the Detective team must use logic, spatial positioning, station interrogation, and perimeter lockdowns to narrow down Jack's location, corner him on a platform, and apprehend him before his designated escape train pulls out of the station.

Designed to captivate fans of atmospheric detective fiction, asymmetric strategy, and deep psychological mind games, Hunting Jack - At the Train Station offers an unforgettable table-top and digital puzzle experience. Featuring dynamic train schedules, variable station weather, disguises, custom detective abilities, and high replayability across multiple station layouts, Hunting Jack - At the Train Station delivers a masterclass in suspense, deduction, and tactical maneuvering.

2. Key Features & Highlights

  • Intense Asymmetric Hidden Movement: One player steps into the shadows as Jack, plotting secret movement paths across numbered station nodes, while 1 to 4 players collaborate as Detectives to track, corner, and capture him.
  • Dynamic Victorian Railway Hub: Navigate a multi-tiered station layout complete with upper catwalks, crowded main concourses, subterranean maintenance tunnels, freight yards, and active train platforms.
  • Interactive Train Schedule System: Express steam trains arrive, board passengers, and depart according to real-time round timers. Jack can board trains to instantly escape to other station sectors—or slip onto the final express train to win the game!
  • Rich Environmental Clue Mechanics: Jack leaves behind physical clues whenever he uses special movement actions (e.g., slipping through steam vents, using carriage disguises, or sprinting across tracks). Detectives investigate node locations to gather physical evidence and narrow down suspect positions.
  • Diverse Character Roles & Special Abilities:
    • Jack (The Fugitive): Uses pocket watches, smokescreens, ticket swaps, and crowd disguises to baffle pursuers.
    • Chief Inspector Abberline: Can issue station sector lockdowns and perform wide-net crowd interrogations.
    • Station Guard Henderson: Can block train boarding gates and sprint across tracks using whistle commands.
    • Undercover Agent Clara: Can deploy tracker dogs to smell coal dust trails and search hidden luggage cars.
  • Multiple Atmospheric Game Modes:
    • Standard Terminal Pursuit: The classic 15-round showdown where Jack attempts to board the 10:45 Midnight Express.
    • Foggy Night Hardcore: Thicker fog obscures detective sightlines, removing automatic visual contact callouts.
    • Asymmetric Campaign Mode: Play a multi-chapter campaign across connected rail hubs from London to Paris.

3. Detailed How-to-Play Instructions

3.1 Basic Rules & Core Objective

The game is played over a maximum of 15 Rounds (or until Jack either escapes or is captured). Each round represents five minutes of real-time activity at the station.

  • Jack's Objective: Board the designated Escape Train (arriving at Platform 4 on Round 12) or survive undetected for all 15 Rounds until the station locks down for the night.
  • Detectives' Objective: Deduce Jack's exact position and execute an Arrest Action on his active node before he escapes or the round limit expires.

Round Structure & Sequence of Play

Each game round is divided into four distinct sequential phases:

  1. Phase 1: Railway Schedule Phase: Advance the station clock by 1 round. Train arrivals, departures, and track switches are updated on the central schedule board.
  2. Phase 2: Jack's Secret Movement Phase:
    • Jack chooses an adjacent connected station node (1 to 120) and writes the node number secretly in his physical or digital Movement Log.
    • If Jack uses a special movement token (e.g., Subterranean Tunnel, Carriage Jump, or Disguise), he must place the corresponding Clue Marker on his current movement log slot.
  3. Phase 3: Detective Tactical Phase:
    • Detectives take actions in any order. Each Detective receives 2 Action Points (AP) per turn to expend on moving, investigating, or locking down station zones.
  4. Phase 4: Clue Verification & Sightlines Phase:
    • Detectives in direct line-of-sight of Jack's position force Jack to reveal if he is currently in a lighted or shadowed area.
