Daily Masyu

1. Executive Summary & Game Overview

Daily Masyu—often known in logic puzzle circles as Pearl Puzzle or Shiro-Kuro (White and Black)—is an elegantly minimalist, deeply satisfying, and intellectually captivating loop-drawing puzzle game. Rooted in rich Japanese pencil-and-paper puzzle traditions popularized by Nikoli, Daily Masyu strips away numeric clutter, word clues, and arithmetic equations, presenting players with a clean, uncluttered rectangular grid populated entirely by pristine white and black circles ("pearls").

In Daily Masyu, the player’s primary objective is simple to state yet endlessly challenging to master: draw a single, continuous, non-intersecting closed loop that passes through every circle on the grid according to strict topological rules. White pearls demand straight passage with sharp turns immediately before or after them, while black pearls require an immediate right-angle turn right on the circle itself, flanked by straight line segments. These dual geometric constraints interact across the grid, generating intricate spatial dependencies where a single line segment drawn in one corner can logically dictate the path of the loop on the opposite side of the board.

Designed for puzzle purists, daily brain-trainers, and spatial logic enthusiasts alike, Daily Masyu delivers a fresh, handcrafted mental workout every single day. Complete with crisp minimalist visuals, fluid tactile controls, dynamic error-checking tools, historic calendar archives, and adaptive hint systems, Daily Masyu transforms a classic paper puzzle into a world-class digital logic sanctuary.

3. Detailed How-to-Play Instructions

3.1 Basic Rules & Core Objective

The primary objective in Daily Masyu is to draw a single, continuous, non-intersecting closed loop that visits every circle (pearl) on the grid while strictly obeying the movement rules for White and Black pearls.

  1. Single Continuous Loop: The finished line must form a single closed loop with no loose ends, branch points, or cross intersections. The loop does not need to visit every empty grid cell, but it MUST visit every single pearl cell on the board.
  2. White Pearl Rule ($\bigcirc$):
    • The loop must pass straight through the white pearl in a straight line (it cannot turn on the white pearl itself).
    • The loop must make a right-angle ($90^\circ$) turn in at least one of the cells immediately before or immediately after the white pearl (or both).
  3. Black Pearl Rule ($\CIRCLE$):
    • The loop must turn at a right angle ($90^\circ$) inside the black pearl cell itself.
    • The loop must extend straight for at least one cell in both directions immediately before and after making the turn on the black pearl (it cannot turn in the cell directly before or directly after a black pearl).
